Sustainability silversmith. Specializing in sentimental, one of a kind, and cool modern.
I`m thinking to do a Sunday photodump to help me celebrate the prior week`s successes and honorable attempts.
I`ve heard it`s good to recognize your wins. This builds your confidence as well as helps you realistically see how truly capable you are. In a humble enough way, of course, but unfortunately most of us feel too humble to even do so!
So last week...
Made my first 2-piece hair accessory thingy.
Made my first poke bowl.
Kittens growing well.
Nearly lost my phone, kind guy returned it.
Handful of fun workshops.
Cosmos Collection continues to grow and ground me.
Btw. Tried to post this Sunday but phone/Instagram were in cahoots to keep me extra humble.

I love it when I ask Suleyman, "Are these made in Marrakech?" And he looks disgusted. "No! Agadir!"
True that. No digs, but there is so much talent in Morocco beyond Marrakech, Tiznit, and all the other `craft centers.`
I melted some silver to work on Cosmo rings and bracelets this week.
In the meantime, here`s some of Morocco`s best sterling silver rings. Love these substantial busy bands. You see the xo ring? 😍 And that Gold Tiger Eye is so shimmery.
Snuck a couple Turkish ones in too.
All sized for Ladyfingers, as in they don`t fit me! Let me know which ones you like and I`ll check the exact sizes.

A few decades in, I went ahead and figured out my why today.
I am constantly walking the line of loving\hating this world.
Love – beauty, diversity\discovering endless good surprises (think deep sea creatures)
Hate – wasteful distractions, harshness, discovering endless bad surprises (think child trafficking rings)
I’ve often said I am a natural-born cheerleader. I love to root people along. No doubt this is just one of the easiest ways for me to get some oxytocin.
So that’s where my why comes from.
Why do I make jewelry?
The making is an awesome way for me to explore the world’s materials and express myself.
The jewelry gives me a double hit by encouraging the wearer to joyfully express themself.
Why do I teach jewelry-making?
Each session is a little party of exploring and celebrating the beauty of this world through thoughtful creation and self-expression.
Know your why?

I have to work on my anger.
Pretty much every day someone comes into my shop and mocks the price of something. I’m not personally offended that my work isn’t valued. Whatever. This always happens to artists.
I’m pissed that low-priced goods are such the norm while the source and devastation of the production practices of cheap goods’ is unknown or ignored.
Three years ago I purchased a bunch of jewelry elements from Turkey. I saw beautiful jewelry handmade in Turkey and didn’t think twice about the source of these pieces. I saw how kind the country is to street animals...
Three years later, after seeing similar and the same exact pieces available across the globe, I asked the supplier in Turkey where these brass suns and other bits came from. China.
We are all surrounded by goods dubiously or heinously made in China, so I avoid buying them as much as possible. And we know of many other places and situations and can often avoid supporting practices elsewhere too.
I make my own suns now. I source the brass from Italy, cut, shape, emboss, poke, sand, polish, wash and then do all the promoting and displaying of my little sun earrings. I aim to make them heirloom quality.
When someone snorts or retorts at the price of my jewelry I’m angry that we aren’t more concerned and active about the other, cheaper options readily available.
1 - Absolutely agree that it is with great privilege that I make these choices and recognize that not everyone has these privileges.
2 - For many years I purchased gemstones from a proactive seller but as of late am not comfortable continuing using gemstones and am slowly using up my supply.
3 - CNN article is regarding clothes, but violations are across industries.
